Maharashtra Tourism describes the festival as a celebration of teamwork, resilience and community spirit, while Mumbai remains one of the biggest centres for the tradition.

1. Ram Kadam Dahi Handi, Ghatkopar

Ram Kadam Dahi Handi in Ghatkopar is one of the better-known names associated with Mumbai’s Dahi Handi circuit. Ghatkopar is traditionally among the city’s major celebration hubs, drawing Govinda pathaks and large crowds during the festival. The attraction is the competitive spirit. Govinda teams work together to build increasingly tall human pyramids, with the lightest and most agile participant making the final climb towards the handi. The south channel of the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road between Shreyas Junction and Bhimnagar Junction is scheduled to remain closed to vehicles from 7 AM to 11:30 PM on September 5 because of the celebration.
