Janmashtami is known for its traditional festive flavours, but this year, this Mumbai bakery is giving a familiar favourite a contemporary and modern makeover. Ahead of Janmashtami, ZARO Bakehouse in Bandra has turned the much-loved combination of makhan and mishri into a trio of modern desserts. Scroll down to know more about these delectable desserts.
ZARO Bakehouse Introduces Janmashtami Special Makhan-Mishri Menu
Traditionally linked with Lord Krishna and his fondness for makhan and mishri, the combination is instantly recognisable during Janmashtami. ZARO, however, is moving it beyond its familiar form of butter and sugar crystals, bringing the flavour into the world of modern bakery and patisserie. The festive menu features Makhan Mishri Tres Leches, Makhan Mishri Croissant and Makhan Mishri Cheesecake, each providing a different take on the nostalgic combination.
The Makhan Mishri Tres Leches brings the flavours into a soft, milk-soaked dessert, playing up the creamy and milky character of the traditional pairing. The Makhan Mishri Croissant takes the combination into a flaky, buttery format, while the Makhan Mishri Cheesecake uses a creamy cheesecake base to highlight the richness of makhan and the delicate sweetness of mishri. Instead of dramatically changing the flavour profile, the bakery’s approach is to retain the familiar buttery, creamy and mildly sweet character of makhan mishri while presenting it in formats that are already popular with today’s dessert lovers.
What’s Special About The Menu?
The menu also reflects a larger shift in the way Indian festive flavours are finding their way into contemporary desserts. Traditional ingredients and flavour combinations are increasingly being used in cakes, pastries, croissants and other bakery creations, giving familiar tastes a new format without completely losing their cultural connection.
For Janmashtami, this means the festive dessert table does not necessarily have to stop at conventional mithai. At ZARO, a flavour traditionally linked to Krishna’s love for butter and mishri is making its way into patisserie, offering a modern interpretation for those looking to celebrate the festival with something a little different.
