What happens when making a film becomes a spiritual journey of its own? For producer Anupriya Nagar, bringing a story inspired by Neem Karoli Baba to the screen was never just about cameras, scripts and getting the details right. It meant immersing herself in the world of a saint whose life continues to inspire people across the globe. In a conversation with Kamiya Jani on Stories From Bharat, Anupriya opened up about the challenges of making Hanuman Ansh, the unexpected ways faith found its way into the filmmaking process, and an encounter with Premanand Maharaj ji that she continues to cherish.
How Hanuman Chalisa Became A Daily Ritual On Set
Making a film on a revered saint comes with a responsibility that goes far beyond telling a compelling story. Anupriya Nagar spoke about how the process demanded discipline, including being mindful of her eating habits and maintaining the right state of mind. When your subject is someone people worship and hold so close to their hearts, every decision carries a different kind of weight.
But something beautiful happened along the way. The Hanuman Chalisa became a part of the daily routine on the sets of Hanuman Ansh. It began as a spiritual practice and gradually became an integral part of the team’s lives, including Anupriya’s own. The experience stayed with her long after the shoot wrapped up.
She revealed that she even began her speeches with the Hanuman Chalisa, including one she delivered at the House of Lords in London. Imagine taking a prayer so deeply rooted in Indian households to one of the world’s most prominent institutions. For Anupriya Nagar, faith had found its way from a film set to an international platform.

Anupriya Nagar Recalls Seeking Premanand Maharaj Ji’s Blessings
Before taking on the responsibility of making a film about a saint, Anupriya also felt the need to seek Premanand Maharaj’s blessings. During their interaction, she recalled how he spoke about the way people form different opinions about saints, sometimes praising them and sometimes criticising them.
What touched her was his appreciation for her efforts to bring their stories to a wider audience.
Anupriya Nagar also shared that she does not get emotional easily. Yet, something about Premanand Maharaj ji’s energy made it difficult for her to hold back her feelings. It was one of those encounters that goes beyond words, leaving you with an emotion you cannot quite explain.
