Bengaluru has a way of surprising even seasoned travellers, and sometimes the surprise comes wrapped in butter. Benne Dosa, the city’s proud, drool-worthy breakfast essential, isn’t just a heavier version of the dosa we eat across India. Catch Archana Puran Singh and family as they travel across the city to discover their favourite spot for benne dosa!
Archana Puran Singh’s Bengaluru Dosa Trail:
Benne Dosa has its own personality. The batter is treated differently; here, the griddle work is slower, the butter is unapologetically abundant, and the final result carries this mouth-watering duality: a crisp shell that gives way to a warm and almost custard-like centre. Bengaluru’s old tiffin rooms have guarded this craft for decades, and locals will debate loyally about who does it best.
So when Archana Puran Singh, still stationed in Bengaluru and glowing with her usual on-camera sunshine, opened her vlog by declaring that today’s mission was “Benne Dosa Day,” the excitement felt instantly real. She spoke about her affection for the city and the hotel she didn’t want to leave just yet, and, with her family beside her, set out for the classic trail.

Stop 1: Central Tiffin Room
Central Tiffin Room doesn’t need introductions; its queues handle that. After a patient wait, which the kind Bengaluru food lovers accept without complaint, the dosa landed on their table. The moment they picked it up, butter clung to their fingers. That alone earned a laugh from the family, and the first bite brought that unmistakable look of quiet satisfaction. Archana moved in toward the lens, cracking open the dosa to reveal its crisp fold and soft, generously filled interior. CTR had clearly set the tone for the day.
Stop 2: Vidyarthi Bhawan
Vidyarthi Bhavan played a different note. The dosa here arrived thicker, sturdier, and with a certain old-world confidence. They enjoyed it; how could they not? But the comparison was inevitable. CTR’s version had already imprinted itself in their memory; Vidyarthi Bhavan, while iconic, didn’t dethrone it.
Archana also noted, “Humne CTR pe hi bol diya tha, it would be very difficult to match that…”
Stop 3: The Rameshwaram Cafe
The final stop, Rameshwaram Café, shifted the mood. An outdoor setup, the rhythm of a busy service line, dosas arriving on banana leaves surrounded by an entire chutney ensemble. They paired it with a fresh apple-beetroot juice, a smart call after a butter-heavy afternoon. This dosa earned enough respect to claim a strong second place.
By the end, nothing had shaken CTR’s dominance. Rameshwaram Café followed closely, and Vidyarthi Bhavan settled into third with grace.
