Ashwini Kalsekar, known for her roles in movies like Golmaal 3 and Singham Returns, keeps sharing delicious recipes with her fans on Instagram (@ashwinikalsekar). Be it adrak ki chutney or pyaaz ki sabzi, she clearly enjoys cooking. This time, she surprised fans by sharing the recipe for Kola Chole, a dish she made for our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, on the Sunday Brunch episode. So without further ado, here’s how you can make it at home.
Here’s the full list of ingredients:
- Peeled and diced kaddu (pumpkin)-500 g
- Boiled chole (with haldi and salt)- 1 and a half cup
- Green chillies- 5 (slit)
- Dry red chillies- 2
- Handful of curry leaves
- Grated coconut paste-1 cup
- Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
- Hing -1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Sugar-1/2 tbsp
- Regular oil -2 tbsp
- Cold-pressed coconut oil -2 tbsp
- Water
- Coriander leaves for garnishing

Here’s The Complete Method To Make This Dish
Now, let’s come to the method of preparing Ashwini Kalsekar’s special Kola Chole:
- Take a pan and heat 2 tbsp of oil.
- Add 2 tbsp cold-pressed coconut oil to it and let it heat.
- Add mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves, red chillies, and slit green chillies. Stir well.
- Immediately add the diced pumpkin pieces and mix. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add salt as per taste and a little water. Cover and cook on medium flame.
- Once the pumpkin turns soft, add the boiled chole.
- Add grated coconut paste and mix well.
- Add a little haldi along with leftover coconut paste water for extra flavour.
- Add 1/2 tbsp sugar and mix again.
- Let it cook for 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
- Garnish with lots of coriander leaves and serve with hot rice and ghee.
That’s it! Kola Chole is now ready to be enjoyed. The recipe shared by Ashwini Kalsekar is simple and easy, even for beginners. The best part is that this sabzi is healthy. It is high in protein, high in fibre, and yes, so delicious!
