Some afternoons begin with a plan; mine began with a fountain. I had barely entered Hyatt Regency when a mini fountain and a set of enormous chandeliers decided to make a rather dramatic first impression. The Polo Lounge for Oktoberfest looked every bit the part too, with the kind of old-world grandeur that makes you instinctively sit up a little straighter. Hyatt has always had a knack for making luxury feel effortless, and on this particular afternoon, the setting was very much giving royalty. Then came the food!
Hyatt Regency Oktoberfest Review: Schnitzel, Korma Popcorn & Melococton At Polo Lounge
I was there for the Oktoberfest celebrations, and somewhere between the German plates, Indian-inspired bites and cocktails, my afternoon plans disappeared. There was no rushing through this meal. We ate, we talked, ordered another drink, tried another plate and repeated the cycle until it was very clear that leaving was going to be the least exciting part.
First Up: Ofenkartoffeln Mit Quark
We started with the Ofenkartoffeln mit Quark, which is essentially a baked jacket potato served with quark cheese and chives. This was my kind of drinking companion. The potato was soft and comforting, while the quark gave it a creamy, slightly tangy richness. If you like having something indulgent to snack on with your drinks, especially something that feels more substantial than the usual bar nibbles, this one makes sense.
I particularly enjoyed the cheese situation here. Nothing complicated! Just a very good potato having a very good day.

Then The Schnitzel Arrived
The Schnitzel mit Spätzle und Pilzsoße was where the afternoon got serious. The menu describes it as chicken schnitzel with sautéed spaetzle and mushroom gravy, and the portion was properly generous. The chicken came in large chunks, so this wasn’t one of those plates where you finish eating and immediately wonder where the rest of it went. The schnitzel itself was crisp and perfectly cooked. What really worked for me, though, was the seasoning.
It had been given enough masala treatment to make it incredibly appealing to an Indian palate, but there was no unnecessary chilli attack. It was flavourful rather than fiery, which I appreciated because the crisp coating and chicken could actually hold their own.

The Quattro Formaggi Pizza Was A Cheese Situation
We also dipped into the regular menu with the Quattro Formaggi Pizza, and this one came with a fairly convincing argument for why four cheeses are better than one. There was mozzarella, grated Parmesan, smoked scamorza and blue cheese, along with vegetables that gave the pizza some much-needed freshness.
I loved the balance here. The vegetables weren’t just there to make the pizza look colourful. They worked with the cheese, giving each bite some texture and keeping the richness from becoming too much. If you like your pizza loaded, particularly if you are the person who sees a cheese pull and immediately forgets all self-control, this one will make you happy.
Vegetable Korma Popcorn Deserves Its Own Fan Club
But my unexpected favourite might have been the Vegetable Korma Popcorn. The name itself had me curious. The dish features korma masala-infused cottage cheese and vegetable deep-fried balls, served with popcorn.
And yes, it is every bit as fun as it sounds.
The little fried bites were packed with flavour. The korma masala brought that familiar Indian warmth, while the presentation made the whole thing feel playful rather than traditional.
I genuinely did not need a dip with these. Give me a plate of these, and I can happily sit there picking them up one by one. Actually, scratch that. I could have put two in my pocket for the ride home.
And Then There Was Melococton
Now we need to talk about Melococton, because this cocktail very nearly became the main character.
It is made with Grey Goose vodka, peach, cinnamon, lemon juice, fizzy hibiscus and cinnamon cordial and comes with a cinnamon spear and homemade fruit lollipop. For me, it felt like drinking a very fancy version of fresh air on a warm afternoon. Fruity, light and refreshing, with just enough going on to keep every sip interesting.
And I am slightly embarrassed to admit this, but I may have ordered one to two more. Maybe that is the best review I can give it!

The Afternoon Was More Than Just Oktoberfest
You walk into the Polo Lounge surrounded by chandeliers and polished interiors, expecting the usual luxury-hotel experience. Then the Ofenkartoffeln mit Quark arrives. The schnitzel turns out to be enormous. The Quattro Formaggi starts disappearing slice by slice. Someone puts down the Vegetable Korma Popcorn, and suddenly everyone at the table is reaching for it!
I came in admiring the chandeliers, but I left thinking about potatoes, schnitzel, korma popcorn and whether anyone would notice if I ordered another Melococton.
Priorities change. Good food does that!
