Ever Wondered If Drinking Coffee Daily Can Impact Your Blood Pressure?

Caffeine addicts, we get it! Your morning cuppa joe can make or break your day. A post or pre-meal cup of coffee can instantly energise you, and you often lean into caffeine more than you wish to. But have you ever wondered what impact your daily coffee intake can have on your blood pressure? Read on to get insights into a study that connects the dots between too much coffee and blood pressure levels.

Too Much Coffee Can Increase Blood Pressure

As per the US Food and Drug Administration, drinking about 400 mg of caffeine, which is about three cups in a day, is safe for a person. But doctors advise that it depends on a person’s health. But even four to five cups of coffee could be safe. As per a report by Times Now, people who consume coffee frequently could be prone to increased blood pressure. It could only involve a higher risk of hypertension.

But it goes without saying that people who drink coffee moderately, and limit their coffee intake to one to three cups a day, may not have a negative impact on their blood pressure levels. If caffeine and coffee are consumed in moderation, studies state that there is no risk to blood pressure.

Coffee In Moderation Is The Key

Another study by the American College of Cardiology in 2024 stated that chronic consumption of high levels of coffee in a day can lead to an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. The study was presented at ACC Asia 2024. This increase in blood pressure and heart rate may persist even after resting from a step test. It may even increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The study showed that chronic caffeine consumption, even at 400 mg daily, affected the autonomic nervous system. It raised heart rate and blood pressure over time. Moreover, people who consumed over 600 mg of caffeine daily also suffered from a significant rise in heart rate and blood pressure. This remained after a three-minute step test and five-minute rest.

Meanwhile, if you are guilty of consuming a lot of caffeine daily, then this could be a sign that you need to take it easy.
