An omelette has never looked this iconic. In a video that has now racked up more than 20 million views, Instagram creator @artisticeasel turned a frying pan into an easel and eggs into paint, sketching out a Mona Lisa omelette. The result? A breakfast dish that looks like it belongs in the Louvre rather than on a plate.
Mona Lisa Omelette In The Making
The short clip doesn’t waste time: yolks are separated, brushed onto the pan with the precision of a steady hand, and shaped into the unmistakable outline of Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous subject.
Once the golden strokes are in place, the whites slide in to complete the canvas. What emerges is startlingly recognisable: the half-smile, the framing, and the aura. Only this time, the medium isn’t oil on wood, but egg on metal.

Internet Showers Love And Praise
If the art world was stunned, the internet was delighted. Commenters piled in, mixing praise with witty punchlines. “You just invented omelette art,” one wrote. Another deadpanned, “Patent this before a fancy restaurant steals it.” A third joked, “Leonardo da Vinci will like from heaven,” imagining the Renaissance master nodding along from above. That was not all, one user got pun-ny instead of funny in the comments and gave the dish a special name: Andalisa.
The creator himself responded with equal doses of humour and modesty. To a sceptical viewer asking if he was serious, he quipped, “No, from Mars.” To another overwhelmed follower demanding, “Who are you????” he left a trail of laughing emojis.
The post has sparked a bigger conversation, too, about how far food can go as an art form. Social media has long embraced latte foam swans and pancake portraits, but this one struck a chord for its audacity: reimagining the Mona Lisa, the most scrutinised painting in history, through the lens of breakfast.
As one commenter neatly put it: “When someone says ‘Chef is an Artist,’ this is exactly what they mean.”
Art critics may never debate brushstrokes on this omelette, but the internet already has its verdict. Between the creativity, the comedy, and the sheer technical execution, @artisticeasel has managed to give the world a moment that is equal parts absurd and astonishing. And perhaps that’s why it resonates so strongly, as it proves that even in the ordinary act of cooking an egg, there’s room for a masterpiece.
