Whether your mom is working or a full-time housewife, she needs proper nutrition. But due to looking after family, children and, of course, home, her health often takes a backseat. You might have seen her complain of low energy levels or back pain. What if we tell you these things could be managed at home with just a little extra care towards her nutrition?
A nutritionist on Instagram, Deepsikha Jain, with the username @fries.to.fit, shared a video that might help mothers keep up their health. She listed five foods every mother should eat, with their benefits. The list included kalonji (nigella sativa), beetroot, flax seeds, dark chocolate and chia seeds. She wrote, “All moms after the age of 50 should look after their nutrition, for which it’s important to include such foods that can support their hormones, bones and immunity too.” But not just mothers after 50; these foods can be included in the diet of any woman.

Nutritionist Shares Benefits Of These 5 Foods
Here are the five superfoods for your mother and their benefits, as told by nutritionist Deepsikha Jain:
- Kalonji: If your mum eats kalonji every day, it will help reduce inflammation, build her immunity and lower the chances of arthritis, which is common in women after 45 or 50 years of age. The best part is, they can be included easily in the daily diet. Eat them raw, soak them in water a few hours before eating, or add them to curries, breads and more.
- Beetroot: The next food on the list is beetroot. Ask your mother to eat it daily, as it is not just a rich source of iron but also helps reduce blood pressure and improve heart health.
- Flax seeds: The third food is flax seeds, already popular on social media for their benefits. For mothers, it is extra useful. Eating flax seeds daily helps balance hormones. They are also rich in phytoestrogens, which can reduce menopause symptoms. Like kalonji, they are easy to add to the diet.
- Dark chocolate: Our favourite, right? Dark chocolate also made it to the list. The nutritionist says eating dark chocolate helps improve mood. Plus, it is rich in magnesium, which boosts energy levels.
- Chia seeds: Eating chia seeds can ease constipation, improve bowel movements and support gut health.
