Celebrations for Raksha Bandhan have begun at Chef Vikas Khanna’s New York City restaurant, Bungalow. This year, he plans to celebrate the festival, which honours the bond between a brother and sister, for three days. To pay tribute to his late sister, Radhika, he will be giving out brass diyas, lotus flowers, and her favourite sweets as petit fours to guests at the restaurant. This heartfelt gesture has touched the hearts of his fans worldwide.

Vikas Khanna shared a close bond with his sister Radhika, who passed away in 2022 after a long battle with lupus. He often credits her for helping him realise has vision for Bungalow in New York City. For Raksha Bandhan 2025, he is honouring her memory at his restaurant. Moreover, each day will feature a special tribute to his sister. 

The chef’s official social media handle, @vikaskhannagroup, shared a video captioned, “Starting today, we celebrate Raksha Bandhan at Bungalow for 3 special days.” In the clip, Vikas can be seen carefully packing brass diyas into small fabric pouches. Additionally, he is preparing to share these tokens that celebrate the brother-sister bond with guests.

The First Day Of Rakhi Celebrations

On the first day of the Rakhi celebrations, Vikas explained that beautiful brass diyas, sent by his mother from Amritsar, would be placed on every table to share his sister’s light with everyone. The restaurant has also been decorated with pink lotus and mogra flowers, his sister’s favourites, filling the space with her “grace and fragrance.”

For dessert, Chef Vikas Khanna could be seen preparing saffron-infused motichoor ladoos, a nostalgic treat from his sister’s childhood. Furthermore, he also says that for the next three days, he will prepare his sister’s favourite sweets and distribute them among the guests at Bungalow. He concludes the video by saying, “Looking forward to celebrating every festival that binds us together at Bungalow.”

Many fans expressed their love under the video, with comments like, “Thanks for bringing light to others’ lives and spreading our traditions and culture abroad. Giving a feeling of home. Happy Raksha Bandhan”. Besides that, another user also added,   “Chef, the way you celebrated Raksha Bandhan is truly heartwarming. Thank you to all the friends and followers for a lovely touch.”
