This week marks the final service at Shilpa Shetty’s iconic Bastian Bandra, the Turner Road institution that helped redefine Mumbai’s dining culture when it opened in 2016. Its closure signals the end of an era, even as the brand looks ahead with new chapters in Juhu and Dadar.
Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian In Bandra To Close Soon

The announcement came via Instagram, where the brand cheekily addressed the “rumour mill” and promised to serve “the real tea” about its future. Co-owned by Shilpa Shetty and Ranjit Bindra, the restaurant quickly became both a celebrity hangout and a marker of how social dining in the city could look. Its last day, September 4, will close a chapter that many in Mumbai’s food scene consider formative.
The brand, however, isn’t disappearing. A new Bastian is already in the works for Juhu, keeping the legacy alive in a different part of the city. Meanwhile, the Bandra address is set for a transformation of its own.
By mid-October, it will reopen as Ammakai, a South Indian speciality restaurant. The name translates to “the mother’s hand,” a fitting clue to its focus on authenticity and warmth. For regulars seeking continuity, Bastian At The Top in Dadar remains very much open.
This is a developing story.
