Swiggy Report: 2.28 Lakh Modaks Ordered During Ganesh Chaturthi, 99K+ Sabudana Thalis During Navratri & More

The festive energy is at its peak and that also means people have been and still are in the mood for some good food. As celebrations move from Raksha Bandhan to Ganesh Chaturthi, and now Navratri and Durga Puja, these occasions have become the perfect time for family gatherings, and for many households, food delivery has become the go-to choice. Swiggy Reveals Growth In Festive Food Orders

The data shared by Swiggy revealed that during the festive season, there was a significant growth in food orders. As people across the country celebrated Navratri and Durga Puja, Swiggy saw a massive rise in festive food orders between September 22 to 30. The platform recorded over 99,200 orders for Sabudana Khichdi, more than 1.03 lakh for Vrat Thali, and nearly 70,000 for Sabudana Vada during this period. While Mumbai and Bengaluru led the Sabudana Khichdi craze, the Vrat Thali found fans in Delhi, Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Noida, and Lucknow.

The festive excitement reached its peak on Ashtami day. Compared to last year, this time, the food delivery app saw 11.5% surge in food orders. Between 8 PM and 9 PM, as people broke their fasts, a whopping 2.2 lakh orders were placed. The total order value also grew by 17% as compared to 2024, proving that India truly loves celebrating through food. Desserts were another highlight, with Choco Lava Cake, Butterscotch Mousse Cake, and Nuts & Dry Fruits Delights emerging as the top picks across major cities.

Swiggy also revealed the cities that had high activity, especially on Ashtami Day. Cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi recorded the most orders, while Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, and Vadodara showed strong growth. Interestingly, Domino’s turned out to be the top dessert choice, with items such as Choco Lava Cake, Red Velvet Lava Cake, Butterscotch Mousse Cake, and even Double Ka Meetha. The fastest delivery of the day was made in Gurugram, taking just 181 seconds to reach the customer.

Food Orders In Other Cities

In Kolkata, Orders on Ashtami went up by 11.26% compared to last year, with Swiggy clocking over 60 orders per minute between September 28–30, and peaking at 197 orders in a single minute. Not being able to resist the charm of biryani, it was the city’s top favourite, with more than 9,000 mutton and chicken biryani orders placed in just three days. One customer even went all out with an ₹18,000 order, featuring dishes like Chilli Lamb Dry, Thai Pork, and Mongolian Chicken.

Earlier, during Ganesh Chaturthi, the country ordered over 2.28 lakh modaks, with Maharashtra leading the trend. And in August, Raksha Bandhan kicked off the festive rush with Swiggy seeing a 32.4% increase in total orders, led by Bengaluru and Mumbai, while non-metro cities like Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, Vadodara, and Ludhiana recorded a remarkable 38.1% rise.
