Being healthy comes with many routines one needs to follow — from workouts to diet. When it comes to diet, certain superfoods have gained popularity for their healthy benefits. One of these is chia seeds, which are highly loved by health and fitness enthusiasts. From smoothies and puddings to overnight oats and salads, these tiny seeds have made their way into almost every healthy recipe. But why? To answer this, an AIIMS-trained gastroenterologist has explained why chia seeds deserve a place in your daily diet. Scroll down to know more.

AIIMS-Trained Gastroenterologist Shares Benefits Of Chia Seeds

Dr Saurabh Sethi (@doctor.sethi) is a professionally trained gastroenterologist from AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford. He regularly shares informative videos on his social media, educating people about gut and stomach health.

Recently, he posted a video explaining what happens when you eat chia seeds regularly for 14 days. According to him, these tiny seeds are packed with nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, protein, calcium, magnesium, and antioxidants, making them a true nutritional powerhouse.

In the video, Dr Sethi explained that just two tablespoons of chia seeds provide around 10 grams of fibre, which accounts for nearly 30 to 40% of the daily requirement. He also highlighted that the fibre in these seeds support gut health by nourishing the good bacteria in the digestive system, playing a key role in improving digestion and immunity.

Another interesting fact of chia seeds is that they can absorb up to 12 times their weight in water. Once soaked, they form a gel-like texture that slows digestion, helps you feel full for longer, and keeps blood sugar levels steady. He also added that regular consumption of chia seeds can help improve cholesterol levels and support heart health.

How To Consume?

For daily consumption of chia seeds, Dr Sethi advised soaking two tablespoons of chia seeds in water, milk, or yoghurt overnight. Among the three options, yoghurt is the most effective one. The doctor recommended soaking these seeds because they become easier to digest and reduce the risk of choking. However, those who experience bloating or have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) should start with smaller amounts and slowly increase the quantity.
