Anushka Rathod Made Kamiya Jani Blind Taste 2 Famous Lochos In Surat To Pick Her Favourite

Surat has its diamonds, its bustling textile lanes, and then, its beloved locho. In the newest episode of Tere Gully Mein, Curly Tales’ Kamiya Jani landed in the city with finance creator Anushka Rathod as her local guide. The mission was simple: get Kamiya hooked on Surat’s most iconic street snack. Spoiler: mission accomplished!

Anushka Rathod Takes Us On A Locho Trail

The food trail kicked off at Janni Locho House, a name that instantly lit up Kamiya’s face. Sharing the same surname as the shop, she cracked jokes about her “family stake” in the business, laughing that maybe this was destiny calling her to locho

Once the plates arrived, the story of the dish came out. Locho, as Anushka explained, wasn’t invented on purpose. It was born from a “mistake.” It came out of a dhokla batter gone wrong and its texture was too runny to be eaten as a piece. What could have been thrown away instead became a happy accident. Locals named it locho, literally “a mess” and dressed it up with chopped onions, tangy chutneys and masala.

Today, it’s a Surat identity marker. Anushka Rathod even reminded Kamiya that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had once praised the dish on a visit.

Janni Locho House Vs Shreeji Locho

But Surat doesn’t believe in one hero. So the duo headed next to Shreeji Locho, another legend of the city. This time Anushka decided to spice things up; she mixed up the plates, handed them to Kamiya, and asked her to play judge without knowing which was which. Kamiya quirkily played along, tasting and guessing, before declaring that both versions had something unique and equally irresistible.

When it came to picking her own favourite, though, Anushka couldn’t hide her bias. Shreeji was where she first ate locho as a child, and that memory is stitched into her love for the dish. Beyond nostalgia, she swore by Shreeji’s chutney and according to her, there’s something about its savoury taste that keeps her loyal.

What stood out in this episode wasn’t just the food (though locho stole the spotlight, as expected), but the dynamic between the two. They teased, swapped plates, and traded stories, showing how food isn’t just a dish; it’s history, identity, and a little bit of mischief.

By the end, Kamiya wasn’t just tasting locho; she was part of Surat’s inside joke! It was that the city’s best treasures often come from its happy accidents.
