If you thought the City Palace was only about grand courtyards, royal portraits and tourists craning their necks for the perfect picture, Jaipur has another trick up its sleeve. The story goes back to Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who founded Jaipur in 1727 after moving his capital from Amber. A mathematician, astronomer and ruler with a serious eye for planning, he envisioned a city built with order and precision, and the City Palace became the centre of its royal life. But once the sun goes down, the palace has a rather different mood.

Shahi Mehfil At Jaipur City Palace Is A Royal Dinner Experience

In the latest episode of Palaces of India, Curly Tales steps into Shahi Mehfil. There is music, traditional performances and that wonderfully dramatic palace setting. But the real twist is that… dinner is part of the experience.

And this is not a “grab a plate and find a table” kind of dinner.

The royal feast brings out the flavours of Rajasthan, with a spread featuring dishes such as dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri, laal maas, traditional breads and Indian sweets, depending on the menu and experience being offered. The food leans unapologetically Rajasthani; earthy, rich and designed for eating slowly, preferably while pretending you have inherited a haveli.

How To Book Shahi Mehfil At Jaipur City Palace

Even the tableware gets the royal treatment. The meal is traditionally served in silver utensils (chandi ke bartan), adding another layer of old-world grandeur to the evening. And then there is Rajputana hospitality!

So, how does one get invited to this royal party?

Shahi Mehfil is a curated experience rather than part of the regular City Palace entry ticket, so travellers can contact the palace’s Events & Experiences team at reservations@royaljaipur.in to check the dates, menu, inclusions and current pricing before booking. Jaipur has museums for looking at its history, Shahi Mehfil lets you sit down and eat it.
