Shekhar Suman welcomed Curly Tales to his palatial Mumbai home for a Sunday Brunch with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani. During the candid conversation, he opened up about his early days in Mumbai, his acting journey, and the role luck has played in his career.
Recalling his arrival in the city, Shekhar revealed that within just 15 days of moving to Mumbai, he landed a film–an opportunity many aspiring actors spend years chasing.
He also spoke about meeting legendary actors Shashi Kapoor and Rekha early in his career and getting the chance to work alongside such celebrated names in his very first film. When Kamiya asked whether he believes in luck, his answer came without hesitation.
“Kismat ke alawa kya hai? Kyunki hunaar toh ho nahi sakta mera! Hunaar wale toh bahut hai… toh kismat hi hogi!” he said.
Shekhar Suman further explained that while talent is important, many people possess extraordinary abilities. According to him, success ultimately depends on having fortune on your side, as talent and hard work alone do not always guarantee the desired outcome.

As soon as you step inside Shekhar Suman’s Mumbai home, it feels as though you’ve entered a European residence. The house exudes Parisian charm, and Shekhar revealed that he and his wife, Alka Suman, have always admired French architecture and interiors. Inspired by this aesthetic, they designed their home to reflect the elegance and timeless appeal of Parisian living.
