Beaches like Marina Beach in Chennai are known for receiving heavy footfall on a daily basis. This is why single-use plastics like water bottles are often seen littered, causing beach pollution. To tackle this problem, the authorities have unveiled a new initiative under the ‘Waste to Valuable’ programme. Smart reverse vending machines have been installed at the beach. These machines allow tourists to swap used plastic bottles for eco-friendly reusable bags. A video posted on X by @pareekhjain shows visitors using the vending machine at the beach.
It is a CSR initiative, and the vending machine is simple to use. Insert the plastic bottle into the machine’s input slot. Once the bottle is scanned and accepted, the machine dispenses a reusable cloth bag. The best part? You can use the cloth bag for many things. Use it for grocery shopping, fruits, or even for buying books from local markets. There are many ways to use it if you ask us.

One user wrote, “This is a nice initiative towards the environment.” Another commented, ” Hoping to see more such recycling stations.” A third user said, “This is the kind of innovation that must be encouraged. This is real and actually useful for society.” And honestly, we agree!
