Heavy Rainfall Wreaks Havoc In Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand, the main road that connects Dehradun and Mussoorie was damaged as major parts of it collapsed due to rainfall. This also triggered landslides that ended up blocking small connecting roads in Jharipani, Chunakhala, and Kimadi. The situation does not seem to be improving soon as over 3,000 tourists are stuck in Mussoorie, reported Hindustan Times.
The flash flood in Dehradun cut the access to the hostel side as the bridge near Uttaranchal University in the Prem Nagar area collapsed. According to the authorities, the worst-hit areas in the region are Sahastradhara on the Dehradun–Haridwar Highway, Maldevta near Raipur, and Prem Nagar on the Dehradun–Paonta Sahib Road. In Prem Nagar alone, eight labourers died and four went missing.
In Karligarh village of Sahastradhara, heavy rain led to mud and debris flowing down unexpectedly. 23 houses and several resorts were damaged. So far, six people have been reported missing in the area, and about 400 people had to be rescued. In Jharipani, two people died when a house collapsed. As per NDTV reports, on September 17, several regions in Uttarakhand will experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms.
