Dubai–Delhi SpiceJet Flight Carrying 148 Passengers Lands With Zero Luggage, Sparking Outrage!

What’s worse than a delayed flight? Landing on time, only to realise your luggage never made it. That’s exactly what happened to passengers’ luggage on SpiceJet flight SG-12, travelling from Dubai International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday evening.

The flight, carrying 148 passengers, departed at around noon UAE time and touched down in Delhi just after 5 pm IST, as informed by Khaleej Times. Everything seemed fairly routine—until everyone made their way to the baggage carousel. And then… nothing. Not a single suitcase appeared. Just a conveyor belt going round and round, mocking tired travellers.

Overweight Aircraft? Come On…

According to several passengers, SpiceJet staff later claimed the aircraft had been “overweight”, forcing the offloading of all checked-in luggage. That explanation didn’t exactly go down smoothly

Let’s face it, overweight aircraft aren’t exactly unheard of, but offloading every single bag? That’s a logistical disaster that raises more questions than answers.

SpiceJet Passengers Left To Fill Out Forms And Wait For Their Luggage

Instead of their luggage, passengers were greeted with paperwork. Airline staff handed out Baggage Irregularity Reports (BIRs) and promised the bags would arrive on the next flight. In practice, that meant hours, possibly days, of waiting for essentials. No clothes, medicines or personal items. Just the joy of an unplanned shopping trip at your own expense. And to make matters worse, the airline hadn’t issued any official statement by the time of reporting.

A Pattern That’s Hard To Ignore

Reports in Gujarati media hinted this wasn’t a one-off incident. The airline has apparently faced similar baggage mishandling issues on international routes before. For frequent flyers, that’s a serious red flag. This debacle also came hot on the heels of another messy episode. Just a day earlier, SpiceJet’s Jaipur–Dubai flight SG-57 was delayed by a whopping 14 hours before being cancelled. Passengers were reportedly left stranded at the airport without food or accommodations.

As passengers await their belongings, questions around accountability, communication, and operational planning are getting louder. And honestly, who can blame them? After all, when you board a flight, your suitcase is supposed to board too.
