Are you planning to fly to the USA? The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently updated their list of prohibited items. This means, from now onwards, passengers can’t carry cordless hair styling tools like cordless curling irons or flat irons in their checked luggage because they might contain dangerous materials. Read to know more.
TSA Updated Prohibited List Items For Flight
As per TheStreets report, on August 15, TSA updated the list of prohibited items on flights. The cordless curling irons or flat irons that use gas cartridges, as well as butane-filled curling irons and their refill cartridges, are not allowed in check-in bags. If a TSA officer found any of the prohibited items in your bag, they can take them away.
The new rule doesn’t mean you can’t carry a cordless curling iron; you can still, but only in a carry-on bag. The FAA advises passengers to securely cover the heating element on these tools and ensure they cannot accidentally switch on. Only cordless hair tools are prohibited. Passengers can confidently carry hair tools with cords, like curling irons or straighteners that plug into an outlet. They are allowed in both check-in and carry-on bags.
Security Changes At US Airports
According to a report by People, this year, the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) made significant changes in airport security. On July 8, the DHS announced that domestic travellers in the USA will no longer need to remove their shoes during security checks. This “Shoes-Off” policy aims to reduce the waiting time and make security checks smooth and comfortable for the passengers.
Back in 2001, the policy of removing shoes during security checks was introduced. It was because Richard Reid detonated explosives hidden in his shoes on an American Airlines flight. According to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, there are changes in rules regarding carrying liquids. For now, passengers are allowed to carry one quart-sized bag of liquids, pastes, aerosols, gels, and creams. They can carry these in containers limited to 3.4 ounces.
These security changes are being introduced to make way for a future where passengers can quickly walk through a scanner and go straight to their gates without undergoing too many security hassles.
So, next time when you’re travelling to the USA, make sure you don’t carry cordless hair tools in your checked-in luggage.
