Flying With IndiGo? Get Ready To Pay 14% More For Excess Baggage, 50% More For Infant Travel

Planning to fly with IndiGo? You now have to shell out a little more for some of the airline’s add-on services. IndiGo has revised charges for services including excess baggage, infant travel, unaccompanied minors, priority check-in and boarding, and travel certificates. Airline Raises Infant Travel Fee

One of the notable changes is the increase in the infant travel fee. For children between three days and two years, the fee has gone up from ₹2,000 to ₹3,000, almost 50% hike. Infants do not get a separate seat and travel on an accompanying adult’s lap, but a ticket is still required.

The revised infant fee is expected to affect a large number of families travelling with young children. According to The New Indian Express, the change could impact around 10 lakh infant passengers and generate approximately ₹90 crore in additional revenue.

Excess Baggage Will Also Cost More On IndiGo Flights

For passengers who tend to pack a little extra, the excess baggage charge has also gone up. The fee has increased from ₹700 to ₹800 per kg for baggage beyond the permitted allowance.

So, if your luggage is 5 kg over the applicable allowance, you would now pay ₹4,000 for the excess weight at the revised rate.

Not just that, IndiGo’s Fast Forward service, which offers priority check-in and boarding, has also become more expensive. For domestic flights, the charge has increased from ₹450 to ₹650 per passenger per sector. For international flights, the charge is ₹850 per sector, according to the revised fee structure reported by India Today.

Unaccompanied Minor Service & Travel Certificate Fee Get Costlier

The airline has also revised its charges for children travelling without an accompanying adult. For domestic flights, the fee for the unaccompanied minor service has increased from ₹5,000 to ₹5,999. For international flights, the charge is ₹12,999.

Another add-on seeing a price increase is the travel certificate. The fee has reportedly gone up from ₹200 to ₹300.

For passengers, this means the base airfare may not be the only cost to keep in mind, especially if you are travelling with an infant, carrying excess baggage or opting for priority services.
