IndiGo Passengers With Baby Struggle To Book Adjacent Seats, Here’s How Airline Responded

Travelling by train, car, or flight is always tiring, especially when you have an infant with you. Holding a baby throughout a flight can be stressful, which makes getting the right seat a basic need. Recently, an X user shared his friend’s experience who was travelling with his wife and infant on an IndiGo flight. What happened next was completely unexpected. Scroll down to know more!

Parents Travelling In IndiGo Flight With Infant Face Seat Issues

A user, Bigul Chugh (@bigulchugh) on X shared his friend’s experience travelling with his wife and infant. During online booking, the couple tried to reserve two seats next to each other. However, the system showed only scattered seats in alternate rows. No adjacent seats were available to select together. For almost a month, the passenger kept checking the website, hoping that two seats side by side would open up. That did not happen.

Finally, when he decided to simply check in, he received a message saying, “Passengers travelling with an infant must select seats.” He was ready to pay for adjacent seats, but the system did not show suitable options.

Here’s How IndiGo Staff Responded

Left with no option, the traveller contacted IndiGo customer care. The executive then assigned the couple adjacent seats free of charge and completed the check-in. As per the policy, parents travelling with an infant are supposed to get adjacent seats, but this is clarified only after the passenger calls customer support.

The post also stated, “This feels less like a system limitation and more like a deliberate push to extract seat fees, even from families travelling with infants, despite the airline having a policy to seat them together.”

In a statement to NDTV, the airline said that infants below two years travel on a parent’s lap and are not given a separate seat, as per standard rules. IndiGo added that its system is designed to automatically assign adjacent seats to one adult and one child within the same booking reference after the booking is completed.
