Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express Sees Strong Demand
The Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express began operations on May 2, 2026. As per Greater Kashmir, in just 10 days, the train has reached close to 90% seat occupancy, showing that many passengers are choosing this service. According to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s vision for the service, the premium semi-high-speed train is now operating with impressive occupancy levels.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), Jammu Railway Division, Uchit Singhal, revealed that the service has maintained an average occupancy of 86.5% during this period. He added that the numbers are steadily moving closer to 90%. He also said that this rising demand shows strong passenger interest in experiencing this train service. The train is also playing a crucial role in boosting tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.

How Many Passengers Are Travelling Daily?
On a daily basis, around 2,500 passengers travel in each direction. This means roughly 2,500 people are going to the Valley and another 2,500 are returning towards Jammu every day. This train service sees strong demand on weekends. During its first weekend on May 2 and 3, the train recorded around 74% occupancy. In the first two days, about 9,000 passengers travelled between Jammu and Srinagar.
Demand increased further in the following days. On May 4, around 4,680 passengers travelled, taking occupancy to 82%. On May 5, the figure jumped sharply to 96%. The second weekend, on May 9 and 10, also saw a peak, with occupancy again reaching about 96% and nearly 11,000 passengers travelling between the two cities. Till now, 40,000 passengers have already used this service.
