India is home to rich culture and heritage, and its 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites are proof of it. Now, there are fresh additions to India’s UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites. Which Places Are Added To The UNESCO Tentative List?
Five new sites have joined the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites. As per NDTV report, four are from Madhya Pradesh, while one is connected to Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement in India and South Africa.
1. The Bagh Caves
The Bagh Caves are located in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and are famous as a group of nine ancient rock-cut Buddhist caves. These caves are carved into sandstones and are known for their mural paintings and historic architecture. Also, the Bagh Caves were built along an old trade route that connected Mahishmati and Bharuch. Many traders and travellers used this route in the past.

2. Ginnorgarh Fort
Located in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, Ginnorgarh Fort is a historic hilltop fort connected to the Gond rulers. Set on a rocky hill surrounded by forests, the fort features defensive structures, palace ruins, stepwells and water reservoirs. In the past, this place used to be a strategic fortified capital for the Gond rulers.
3. Group of Temples of the Chambal Valley
This place is home to a collection of ancient temples in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district. It includes Bateshwar, Padavali and Kakarmath. Built between the 8th and 11th centuries, these temples feature detailed stone carvings and tall spires.
4. Udaigiri Caves
The Udaigiri Caves in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, are a group of 20 ancient rock-cut caves. These caves were built during the Gupta period and feature beautiful sculptures and old inscriptions. One of the highlights is the famous Varaha sculpture of Lord Vishnu.
5. Sites of Satyagraha
The last one on the list is a proposed transnational property connected to Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha journey from South Africa to India. It includes nine locations: Pietermaritzburg Station and Phoenix Settlement in South Africa, and Mahatma Gandhi Satyagraha Smarak, Sabarmati Ashram, Mani Bhavan, Harijan Sevak Sangh, Sevagram Ashram, Aga Khan Palace and Gandhi Smriti in India.
