Making the best of this long weekend, many Indians are already planning a trip with their friends and family. ixigo’s latest airfare data and booking trends clearly show this travel rush, particularly in Goa this Independence Day.
Flight Bookings For Goa Surge On Independence Day Weekend
Addressing the Independence Day long weekend travel trend, Rajnish Kumar, Group Co-CEO, ixigo said, “With August 15th falling on a Friday this year, many travellers are taking Thursday off to enjoy an extended four-day weekend, and we’re seeing that reflected in a sharp uptick in flight bookings. Travel to popular leisure destinations is up by 25–30% year-on-year.”
He further mentioned that Goa, in particular, has seen a surge in demand for beach getaways. This has pushing airfares to Goa from Delhi and Mumbai to go up by over 100% week-on-week. Not just Goa, places like Kannur and Coimbatore are also having a moment. “Scenic spots such as Dehradun, Kannur, Udaipur, Coimbatore, among others, are also seeing strong momentum, with fares rising 10-15% YoY on average during the holiday weekend. Among the most booked domestic destinations this season are Dehradun, Port Blair, Goa, and Coimbatore,” he added.

Comparing Week-On-Week Airfare Data
To give you a clear idea, here’s how air fare rose during the Independence Day long weekend from August 14 to August 17, 2025, compared to August 7 and 8, 2025. The fare for Mumbai to Goa and Delhi to Goa has witnessed more than 100% increase in airfare. For Mumbai to Goa, the fare on August 7 & 8 was ₹4,995, which surged up to ₹12,376 on the same routes on the long weekend. The Delhi to Goa fare was ₹651,2, which rose to ₹13,687, on the same dates.
Moreover, Delhi to Port Blair fares went up from ₹9,495 to ₹10,895 (14%), Delhi to Pune witnessed surge in price from ₹5,500 to ₹6,494 (18%), Delhi to Kochi from ₹8,133 to ₹12,091 (49%), Mumbai to Kochi from ₹7,650 to ₹12,770 (67%), and Delhi to Dehradun from ₹3,607 to ₹4,907 (36%)
Places That Saw A Drop In Fares On Independence Day Long Weekend
Airfare prices during the Independence Day weekend on the Mumbai to Amritsar route dropped from ₹8569 to ₹6044 (29%), and New Delhi to Coimbatore went from ₹9575 to ₹7119 (26%). Other routes that witnessed a slight drop in airfares are from New Delhi to Udaipur, New Delhi to Goa, New Delhi to Amritsar, Bengaluru to Goa, Bengaluru to Jaipur, Bengaluru to Dehradun, Bengaluru to Kannur and Mumbai to Kannur.
