Pune Metro Line To Open Soon? Check Route, Stations & Other Key Details Here

Good news for Pune Metro commuters! Metro Line 3, also called the Pink Line, may open by the end of September. The service is likely to be inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The line, which will connect Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, has been much-awaited by commuters. Here’s everything you need to know about this update.

Pune Metro Line 3 To Connect Hinjewadi And Shivajinagar

Pune Metro Line 3 is a new 23.3-kilometre-long elevated train track. It connects Hinjewadi, the famous IT office hub, to Shivajinagar/Civil Court, which is located in the middle of Pune city. According to Hindustan Times, Pune Metro Line 3 is likely to open for passengers by the end of September. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the service virtually.

Reportedly, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) plans to begin operations at only 17 of the corridor’s 23 stations. Initially, the authorities planned to open just 12 stations and gave safety clearances for passenger operations. Now, the authorities are expected to inspect five additional stations next week.

Metro Line To Improve Connectivity Between IT Hub & Central Pune 

This 23.3-kilometre corridor will connect Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar through key areas including Wakad, Balewadi and Baner. According to Hindustan Times, Pune Metro Line 3 is expected to decongest the Hinjewadi-Baner-Shivajinagar road network by providing an alternative travel route. Plus, authorities also expect it to improve connectivity between the IT hub and Central Pune.

Six stations on this corridor will remain closed until pending work is completed and safety clearances are obtained. These stations include Laxmi Nagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, Reserve Bank of India and Shivajinagar. Commuters can ride Pune Metro Line 3 without waiting for the entire corridor to be completed.
