Will Bengaluru Metro Fares Cost Double Of Delhi Metro? All You Need To Know

In Bengaluru, the metro has become a part of daily life, making travel easy for lakhs of passengers. From going to offices and colleges to running daily errands, people rely heavily on the metro, thanks to its affordable fares. However, commuters may now face rising costs as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is planning to raise Namma Metro fares by 5% starting February. Scroll down to know more!

Bengaluru Metro Fares Likely To Be More Than Delhi Metro

BMRCL is likely to increase Namma Metro fares by 5% starting February. According to Moneycontrol, if implemented, this hike could make metro travel in Bengaluru almost twice as expensive as the Delhi Metro. The Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) has recommended the proposed increase, triggering strong reactions online. Many commuters are unhappy as they believe that public transport should remain affordable, especially in Bengaluru, as it’s part of people’s daily lives.

Social media quickly became a platform for criticism. Many online users are not in favour of the hike. They said that BMRCL continues to increase fares every year, adding financial pressure on regular commuters with limited alternatives.

Price Hike In The Previous Year

Several commuters believe higher ticket prices could push people back to private vehicles. According to them, even with fuel costs, carpooling may turn out cheaper than metro travel. Many users also questioned why another fare hike was needed within such a short period.

Service-related issues added to the anger. Commuters highlighted severe overcrowding on trains, especially on the Purple Line near Kempegowda Station, where passengers often struggle for space and fresh air. Many felt authorities should focus on improving services and managing crowds instead of raising fares.

The previous fare hike was also quite sharp. Moneycontrol reported that in February last year, BMRCL revised metro fares and raised the maximum ticket price from ₹60 to ₹90. It also increased the minimum balance required on smart cards from ₹50 to ₹90. Under the revised structure, short trips of up to 2 km cost ₹10, with fares increasing by distance. Passengers paid ₹20 for 2–4 km, ₹30 for 4–6 km, ₹40 for 6–8 km, ₹50 for 8–10 km, ₹60 for 10–12 km, ₹70 for 15–20 km, ₹80 for 20–25 km, and ₹90 for journeys beyond 25 km.

However, according to Trak, authorities have put the proposed Namma Metro fare hike for 2026 on hold after strong public backlash and feedback.
