Airoli-Katai Elevated Corridor To Open In July
The long-awaited development is expected to ease traffic, reduce travel time, and improve connectivity among Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, and Dombivli. According to a report by the Free Press Journal, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has confirmed that the first two phases are in the final stages of implementation and are set for inauguration next month.
Once the entire 12.71-km elevated corridor is finished, it will decrease the distance between Airoli and Dombivli by nearly 10 km and cut travel time by 30 to 45 minutes. Travellers will be able to commute between Navi Mumbai and Dombivli in just 15 minutes, providing a faster alternative to the current road network.

According to MMRDA authorities, over 92% of the work on the 3.43-km first stage, which links Thane-Belapur Road to National Highway-4 (NH-4), has been finished, with only completed touches remaining. The 2.57-km second phase, linking Airoli with Thane-Belapur Road, is fully finished. Both stretches are expected to be inaugurated together just before opening to the public in July.
The new elevated corridor is expected to reduce congestion at major traffic jams such as Mahape, Shilphata, Kalyan Phata and Thane-Belapur Road. It will also provide smooth connectivity between the Mulund-Airoli Bridge, Thane-Belapur Road and NH-4, helping travellers save time, fuel and travel costs.
Final Phase Expected Within 18 Months
Construction of the 6.71-km third and final phase, stretching from NH-4 to Katai Naka, is currently in progress and is expected to be completed within the next 12 to 18 months.
Once completed, the full corridor will form a high-speed road link connecting Navi Mumbai, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan, making commutes across the region faster and more efficient.
With the first two phases set to open next month and the remaining section progressing gradually, the Airoli-Katai Elevated Corridor is likely to become one of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s most major infrastructure projects, offering long-term benefits for travellers, businesses and regional connectivity.
