Boxer Lovlina Borgohain clinched the silver medal in the women’s 75kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. However, her achievement was overshadowed by an issue she encountered at a restaurant, where the map of India printed on its napkins omitted the Northeast and parts of Kashmir. Calling the depiction hurtful, Borgohain urged the restaurant to ensure that every part of the country is represented accurately.
Lovlina Borgohain Flags Northeast Omission In India Map
According to India Today, after winning her first Commonwealth Games medal, Lovlina Borgohain and her team visited Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry in Glasgow. At the eatery, Lovlina saw the inaccurate map of India displayed both on the napkins and outside the restaurant.
While talking to the media, the boxer said, “Please don’t take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that’s displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That’s all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much.”
Her concerns were also backed by Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh, who noted that the map left out parts of Jammu and Kashmir as well. He urged the restaurant to remove the inaccurate design and replace it with a correct representation of India’s map.
