Bandra-Amritsar Paschim Express

Concerns over passenger safety have been raised after the coaches on the Bandra Terminus-Amritsar Paschim Express detached (uncoupled) twice. Both incidents happened within an hour on Sunday in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Fortunately, all passengers were safe. Here’s what happened after.

Coaches On The Bandra Terminus-Amritsar Paschim Express Detached Twice

The Bandra Terminus – Amritsar Paschim Express is a Superfast Express Train operated by Indian Railways. It runs daily, connecting Bandra Terminus in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to Amritsar in Punjab. On Sunday, September 28, two coaches on the train detached twice within an hour, raising concerns about safety. The first incident happened between Vangaon and Dahanu stations in Maharashtra at 1:19 pm. The second took place near Sanjan station in Gujarat at around 2:10 pm.

Western Railway confirmed the incident on their official X account. They wrote, “Train No. 12925 Bandra Terminus–Amritsar Paschim Express experienced a technical issue in the coupling of coaches A1 and A2 between Vangaon and Dahanu Road station today.” The authorities further added, “After the train arrived at Valsad station, the sick coaches were replaced before departure, ensuring all safety measures.”

A Western Railway spokesperson also told Press Trust of India (PTI) that there were no injuries or inconvenience caused to passengers. Train operations were not impacted. The train was delayed by about 25 minutes before being recoupled and permitted to depart at 1:46 pm.

Relief Arrangements By Authorities

As per the same report, the second uncoupling at Sanjan halted the train again. A relief locomotive was sent from Valsad at 3:15 pm. The train resumed its journey at 4:46 pm. The Valsad Medical Association arranged tea and snacks for about 100 passengers. Both times, the same two 2AC coaches, which were 17th and 18th from the engine in the 23-coach train, had uncoupled. After inspection, they were replaced with two 3AC coaches. Following this, the train left Sanjan with a delay of almost four hours.

Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek told PTI that 15 staff members shifted luggage from the 2AC coaches to the 3AC replacements. Refreshments were also served to passengers during the wait. Technical checks were carried out to ascertain the cause of this repeated uncoupling of coaches. The authorities now await further details.
