Bengaluru Airport Reintroduces Pick-Up Fees Of ₹150 For Parking Longer Than Free Limit From…

Getting through the airport can be stressful, especially when the pick-up area is packed with traffic. To make arrivals smoother for travellers, Bengaluru Airport has reintroduced a system to manage vehicle movement and reduce congestion. These changes will take effect from December 8 and will focus on how long vehicles can stay in the arrival pick-up zone. Scroll down for more details.

Bengaluru Airport To Charge Fees From Vehicles

The airport operator, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), has declared that it will now charge vehicles. This rule is only for those vehicles that will stay beyond the free waiting limit. According to Hindustan Times, private cars can still enter the designated pick-up zones at Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2) without paying anything, but only for eight minutes. After this free window, charges will apply. Here are the charges for each minute—

If a vehicle overstays between 8 and 13 minutes, the fee will be ₹150. If it stays between 13 and 18 minutes, the charge will be ₹300. Any vehicle that remains beyond 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station, and the owner will have to pay fines and towing charges. With these charges, the airport will be able to prevent misuse of the pick-up zone, which often gets crowded because of long waiting times and unauthorised halts.

Lane Segregation System At Airport

To manage traffic, BIAL has also introduced a lane segregation system, which separates different types of vehicles. Commercial vehicles will follow a separate set of rules. All yellow-board taxis, electric cabs, and other commercial vehicles must wait only at their designated parking zones. As per Hindustan Times, for them, the airport is offering the first 10 minutes of parking for free. Taxis going to T1 should wait at P3 or P4, while those picking up passengers from T2 must go to P2. After picking up their passengers, they will move toward the terminal exit.

Moreover, apart from pickup charges, the Bengaluru airport officials have also noticed many vehicles stopped at places they shouldn’t. These include arrival gates, exit ramps, or roadside. These stops can result in traffic jams, and so now the airport is requesting travellers to use only the official pick-up points and trusted cab services like Airport Taxi, Uber, Ola, Quick Ride, OHM electric cabs, and WTI cabs.
