Bengaluru: 19-YO Food Delivery Boy Arrested For Secretly Filming Women On MG Road

A 19-year-old food delivery executive in Bengaluru recently got arrested under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act for allegedly recording women on the streets of MG Road, and posting it on the Instagram account with background music.

Social media harassment cases have been rapidly increasing in India. Recently, a 19-year-old food delivery boy was arrested for allegedly recording women on MG Road in Bengaluru. Reports suggest that he used to post the secretly recorded videos and photos on his Instagram handle with Hindi and Bengali songs and hashtags.

Police have reported an increase in online harassment cases, many of which have involved the younger population, across India recently. One of the recent cases is of a 19-year-old food delivery boy who was arrested in Bengaluru for secretly recording women. According to The Hindu, his name is Dilawar Hussain M.D, and he is a native of Manipur.

As per the police, the accused was recording women on MG Road without their permission. He also used to upload these pictures and videos on his Instagram account “DILBAR JAANI-67” with background song and hashtags like “Bengaluru nightlife.” When asked the reason behind this, Dilawar said that he did this to increase his Instagram followers.

As per Hindustan Times’ report, the social media monitoring cell noticed these videos during a routine check. Later, the accused was arrested by the Ashoknagar police, led by Sub-Inspector Nabi Saab. Talking to the media, the police officer said that this kind of act not only invades public privacy, but also shows a wrong impression of the city. The food delivery boy’s case was registered by the authorities. He was arrested under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

Other Similar Cases  

This is one of the many cases reported in recent times. The Hindu reported that recently, a 26-year-old hotel management graduate, Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Krishnarajapuram, was held for filming women. He posted the secretly recorded visuals under an anonymous Instagram account, “IndianWalk.”

Earlier this year, a 27-year-old accountant, Dignath, was arrested for a similar act. He filmed women on the Namma metro and would later upload the photos and videos on an anonymous Instagram account.

These cases of filming women without their knowledge and permission have been rising. Ensuring the safety of women in public places, police officers and concerned authorities are now taking strict action.
