Bihar’s 6-Lane National Expressway
As per a report by Travel & Leisure India, construction on key projects like the Varanasi-Aurangabad Highway, Amas-Darbanga Expressway and Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway is already in progress. The construction promises faster transit, improved logistics, economic growth and better connectivity. Among the most important projects is the Varanasi-Aurangabad six-lane highway. It is said to be the city’s first six-lane national highway, which is already under construction and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2026. The estimated cost of construction for this 192-km highway is said to be ₹4,100 crore. Additionally, to ease traffic in Patna city, the JP Ganga Path will also be expanded in two phases. As per the news portal, phase one of this expressway in Bihar will involve the construction of a 17.65-km-long four-lane road from Sherpur to Koilwar. In the second phase, an 18 km elevated four-lane road will be constructed from Digha to Sherpur.
Other Important Projects Of Bihar
Another significant project in the state is the construction of a 120-km-long, four-lane access-controlled national highway between Patna and Sasaram. The highway will reduce travel from 5 hours to just 2 hours and will connect NH-19 and NH-20. The project is said to be completed by 2028 in two phases: one from Patna to Bhojpur (46 km) and phase two from Ara to Sasaram (74 km).
Besides the Varanasi-Aurangabad highway, NHAI is also working on the 189-km-long, six-lane Amas-Darbhanga Expressway. The main aim of this highway is to improve road conditions and cut travel time between Gaya and Darbhanga. The Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata expressway is also under construction under the Bharatmala Project. The highway will pass through Dumaria and Imamganj and will help boost employment in these regions.
Lastly, the Patna-Purnia Expressway in Bihar, which is a 282 km-long highway, is being developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model, which involves a collaboration between the private sector and the government. The construction of this has not started yet, but land acquisition is in progress.
