Named Aloka, the Peace Dog, he now walks alongside Buddhist monks on a journey meant to spread compassion and harmony. Scroll down to know more!

Who Is Aloka, The Peace Dog?

Aloka is a former stray dog from Kolkata, India. Hindustan Times reported that Aloka is around four years old and is likely an Indian Pariah dog. He has a brown-and-white coat and a heart-shaped mark on his forehead, which many find special. While living on the streets, he began following a group of Buddhist monks during one of their peace walks.

Over time, he stayed with them and became a constant companion. The monks welcomed him, and Aloka never left their side. He walked with them for more than 100 days across India.

Aloka travelled from India to the US with the monks and has become the unofficial mascot of the walk. He walks daily with the group and often draws attention from people they meet on the way. Many stop to greet him, take photos, or learn his story. Some people also offered him treats.

Journey In The US

Aloka continues his journey in the United States as part of the ‘Walk for Peace’. According to Hindustan Times, this walk began on October 10 in Fort Worth, Texas. The monks plan to walk through 10 US states and cover around 3,700 kilometres. They expect to reach Washington, DC in about 120 days. The walk aims to spread awareness about peace, kindness, and compassion across America and beyond. The initiative is organised by the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Centre.

The monks ensure Aloka’s well-being throughout the journey. He receives regular veterinary check-ups and proper care. The dog is now all over our social media, winning everyone’s hearts with his kindness and cuteness.
