When Is Cheti Chand?

Cheti Chand is also known as Jhulelal Jayanti, and it marks the Sindhi New Year. In 2026, Cheti Chand will be observed on Friday, March 19. As per the Free Press Journal, the Pratipada Tithi starts at 6:52 AM on March 19 and ends at 4:52 AM on March 20. The Cheti Chand Muhurat, the most auspicious time for celebrations, will be from 6:20 PM to 7:32 PM, lasting about 1 hour and 12 minutes.

Cheti Chand is celebrated in honour of Lord Jhulelal, who is seen as the protector of the Sindhi community. He is believed to be an incarnation of Varuna, the god of water. Jhulelal appeared to help Sindhi Hindus during difficult times and is now worshipped as their main deity. People often show him riding a fish, which represents faith, courage, and protection.
