Indian Railways Approves Project On Chouk-Karjat Section
At present, the Chouk-Karjat route has only one railway track, which limits the number of trains that can run on it, whether passenger or goods trains. According to NDTV report, so, to improve travel on this route, Indian Railways has now approved the doubling of the Chouk-Karjat railway section. The project is planned at an estimated cost of ₹497 crore.
This section is part of the Panvel-Chouk-Karjat railway route, connecting Raigad district with the suburban areas of Mumbai. With this project, more trains will be able to run on the route. The project is part of Indian Railways’ plan to increase capacity across several routes. It includes projects involving doubling, tripling, quadrupling, flyovers and bypasses.

More Trains On This Route
The Chouk-Karjat route handles both goods and passenger trains. As per NDTV report, now, soon with doubling tracks, this route will have five additional trains running in each direction daily. This means, now passengers will have more travel options to choose from.
This project will also increase the route’s freight-carrying capacity. According to the Ministry of Railways, the route will be able to carry an additional 18.35 million tonnes of goods every year after the project is completed. We’re excited to see how this project will change travel.
