On Saturday, the cost of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) was again increased by ₹1 per kg in Delhi-NCR, indicating the second hike in fuel prices this week as increasing global crude oil rates continue to put pressure on oil marketing companies. Scroll down to know more.

CNG Prices Increase In Delhi-NCR

According to a report by India Today, CNG in Delhi will now cost ₹80.09 per kg, while customers in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad will pay ₹88.70 per kg. The latest spike comes just after two days where CNG prices were increased by ₹2 per kg on May 15, leading to the cumulative increase in CNG rates to ₹3 per kg in 48 hours.

The earlier rise had come along with a rise in petrol and diesel prices across India. On May 15, both petrol and diesel prices were raised by ₹3 per litre for the first time in over four years as state-run fuel retailers began making up for part of the losses caused by volatile international crude oil prices due to the ongoing US-Iran war. With the revised price, petrol in Delhi now costs ₹97.77 per litre, up from ₹94.77, while diesel is priced at ₹90.67 per litre compared to the earlier ₹87.67. Prices differ across states due to variations in value-added tax.

Global crude oil prices have jumped by more than 50% since the US-Israeli strikes on Iran back on February 28, and Tehran’s counterattack actions disrupted energy flows via the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global oil shipments.

Petrol & Diesel Prices Are Highest Since 2022

As per the portal, the petrol and diesel prices are the highest since May 2022. Fuel rates had largely remained the same since April 2022, aside from a one-time reduction of ₹2 per litre in March 2024.

Industry sources stated that the latest hikes remain relatively small compared to the scale of increase in global crude prices and that oil marketing companies continue to endure significant losses. According to the industry reports, retailers are still losing out around ₹11 per litre on petrol and ₹39 per litre on diesel despite the modifications.
