For many pet parents, planning a long motorcycle journey can mean leaving their dogs behind. But Ridhi and Anurag found a way to bring their two pets, Laddu and Scooby, along for the ride with their customised dog trolley. Couple Builds Customised Dog Trolley For Their Pet

The unusual setup was put to the test during their journey to Ladakh, where the dogs travelled through rough mountain roads, steep climbs, strong winds and cold weather. The couple designed the trolley specifically to carry Laddu and Scooby behind their motorcycle. The idea was simple: instead of leaving their pets at home or making separate travel arrangements, they wanted the dogs to experience the journey with them. The family describes their creation as India’s first dog bike trolley. However, this remains a claim made by the family and does not establish that similar setups have not been used elsewhere in the country.

Taking dogs to Ladakh also comes with its own challenges. Several parts of the region are located at elevations of 3,000 metres or more, where oxygen levels are lower than at sea level. While dogs can adapt to higher altitudes, a rapid elevation change can put additional stress on their bodies and may lead to tiredness, faster breathing or reduced tolerance for physical activity. The cold is another factor, particularly when animals are exposed to strong winds for several hours during a motorcycle journey.

Rough Roads, Long Hours And New Surroundings

Unlike travelling in a car, a motorcycle journey exposes dogs to continuous vibration, sudden movements and changes in speed. A carrier used for such trips therefore needs to provide stability, ventilation and enough room for the animals to remain comfortable. Dogs also need to be safely secured without restricting their movement or breathing. Long journeys require regular breaks, access to water and close monitoring for signs of stress or exhaustion.

For some dogs, travelling itself can be challenging. Motion sickness, anxiety and unfamiliar surroundings can make road trips uncomfortable. Veterinary guidance generally recommends gradually introducing pets to vehicle travel rather than taking them straight on a long-distance journey. For Laddu and Scooby, the custom trolley gave them a chance to accompany their owners through one of India’s most challenging road-trip destinations. Their Ladakh journey is also a reminder that travelling with pets involves more than simply taking them along. It requires careful planning around their comfort, health, safety and ability to handle the conditions.
