Delhi To Get A Double-Decker Flyover By Dec 2027; Aims To Reduce Congestion On Roads

There is a major update from the capital! The Delhi government has approved a six-lane double-decker flyover in South Delhi. The upcoming project, which will be built at a cost of ₹1,471.14 crore, aims to ease congestion and streamline traffic movement across busy South Delhi roads. Here’s everything we know so far.

Double-Decker Flyover Coming Soon In South Delhi

This six-lane double-decker flyover is being built to make daily commutes smoother for Delhiites. The project is expected to be completed by December 2027. According to a report by Mid-Day, the flyover will be constructed along the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road in South Delhi and will be developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The project will feature a metro corridor on the upper deck and a six-lane elevated road below, helping optimise space while improving traffic flow.

The announcement was made by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The project is expected to benefit daily commuters and also boost road infrastructure development in the national capital. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹1,471.14 crore. Authorities are expecting the project to be completed by December 2027.

Flyover To Be Developed In Two Phases

As per a report by Mid-Day, the integrated road project will span a total length of 5 kilometres and will be developed in two phases. The first phase will cover a 2.42 km stretch from Saket G-Block to Sangam Vihar. The second phase will cover 2.48 km from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur. The project is a major step towards creating a more organised and seamless traffic network in South Delhi.

We all know that traffic congestion in this part of the city is a daily struggle, and this flyover is expected to bring some relief for the daily commuters.  The design includes a metro corridor on the upper deck and a six-lane elevated road below. This layout ensures optimal usage of the space but also improves the road’s capacity to handle heavy traffic.

In addition to this, authorities are planning to construct two vehicular underpasses. These will be located at Saket G-Block and along the BRT Corridor. The underpasses will help ease traffic in areas like Saket G-Block, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur, and Sangam Vihar, which see heavy congestion during peak hours.
