Avocado on toast, blueberries in oats, quinoa for dinner and more,  all these dishes are tasty, yes, and quite fancy. But many influencers have made us believe that eating only these kinds of meals is what defines clean eating and good health. Because of this, our desi food or traditional Indian meals have taken a back seat.

Our mums were never wrong when they said Indian food is healthier and easier on the pocket. In fact, Indian ingredients are far more compatible with our bodies than fancy Western food items. Now, Nipa Asharam, who is a certified life and health coach, has uploaded a video sharing five desi swaps for the fancy foods we often see on social media.

5 Desi & Healthy Food Alternatives You Will Love

Nipa Asharam, known for her simple health tips, shared how we can replace trendy ingredients with Indian ones that offer the same,  or even better, benefits. Here’s what the alternatives are:

1. Ditch avocado for dahi: Nipa suggests replacing avocado with dahi (curd). Dahi is rich in good fats, protein and probiotics. It’s easily available, affordable, and great for the skin too. Adding it to your daily meals can do wonders for your health.

2. Ditch blueberries for amla: Amla is super rich in Vitamin C! It has about  20 times more Vitamin C than any other fruit or vegetable. It’s versatile too. You can have it as juice, powder or even in fermented form. Plus, it’s much cheaper than blueberries.

3. Ditch quinoa for dal khichdi: Quinoa may be trendy, but our beloved dal khichdi (a mix of lentils and rice) is just as nutritious. It’s a complete protein and even easy to digest. It is a wholesome Indian meal that could be a great alternative to Quinoa.

4. Ditch green tea for cinnamon water: Replace your green tea with dalchini (cinnamon) water. Both are rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties. But cinnamon water wins here! Guess why?  It’s caffeine-free, unlike green tea!

5. Ditch electrolyte sachets for salt water: Instead of store-bought electrolyte sachets, just drink water mixed with a pinch of salt. It helps balance electrolytes and can even prevent headaches and migraine, especially for those with low sodium levels.
