Seems like every city is now planning to bring back the iconic double-decker buses on the road. First Delhi, then Lucknow, and now Bengaluru! These buses will be seen on the roads for the first time since 1997 as part of the KSTDC’s ‘hop-on, hop-off’ sightseeing tour. Here are all the details you need to know about the route, ticket price, and more.
Bengaluru’s Double Decker Buses Promise A Nostalgic Ride
Bengaluru’s double-decker buses promise a nostalgic ride through the iconic tourist spots in the city. As per a report by Deccan Herald, these buses were last seen on the roads in 1997 before disappearing and taking all the memories with them. But now, people can ride on these buses once again after 29 years! Reportedly, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has recently launched its ‘hop-on, hop-off’ sightseeing tour, and these buses are a part of that.
The new service will start from Ravindra Kalakshetra on JC Road and travel through Corporation Circle, Hudson Circle, Kasturba Road and Vidhana Soudha before returning to its starting point. Throughout the journey, the passengers will have an amazing opportunity to see the heritage landmarks of the city. This will include M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Vidhana Soudha, High Court of Karnataka, Town Hall and Visvesvaraya Science and Technological Museum.

One Bus Can Carry 40 Passengers
According to a report by Deccan Herald, the double-decker bus service in Bengaluru was recently inaugurated by Tourism Minister HK Patil. It should be noted that in the pilot phase of this service (hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour), three buses have been deployed. They will operate on a short loop for now. The authorities plan to expand the service to a longer route covering 26 landmarks in the city.
These Ambaari double-decker buses can carry 40 passengers. They can accommodate 20 on the air-conditioned lower deck and 20 on the open-top upper deck. The buses will cover five trips throughout the day. People can purchase a full-day pass for ₹180 online at kstdc.co.in!
Prashant Kumar Mishra, Managing Director of KSTDC, shared with Deccan Herald that for a long time, these buses were being used only during the Mysuru Dasara. But the team thought that this new initiative would put them to better use throughout the year.
