Baradwaj Rangan took to Instagram to say that “autos in Chennai have a reputation”.  And now you would ask why. The film critic recently took an auto to travel a short distance while he was in Chennai. He could have walked, but since the sun was blazing, he decided to take an auto, which cost him just ₹48. Baradwaj Rangan mentioned that he has a habit of always tipping a little extra, but since it was a very hot day, he decided to give the auto driver ₹100.

The auto driver refused, smiled, and drove off. The payment was made digitally, and the next day, Baradwaj Rangan found that the auto driver, named Prabhu, had returned ₹52 to him on his mobile phone through the same mode of transaction. Baradwaj Rangan wrote, “This has NEVER happened. And now I am curious about this man. I want to know his story.”

Netizens React To The Honest Gesture

Honestly, things like this do not happen every day. In days when auto and cab drivers are known for overcharging commuters, this auto driver in Chennai has set an amazing example. Baradwaj Rangan also mentioned how rare it is these days to meet a man of principle and people who live by “some code”. According to him, auto driving is not the most remunerative of jobs, especially when a driver is in a contract with an app-based service. The film critic ended his post by wishing luck to this auto driver in Chennai.

Netizens were quite surprised by this. One user wrote that they have only seen auto drivers fighting for extra money, adding, “Which Chennai is this in the multiverse?” Another wrote, “Chennai auto drivers in a parallel universe”. A third Instagram user commented, “People who live by principles cannot be moved by anything flattering. There are people out there with the same morality but less in number.”
