Airoli–Katai Naka Corridor To Be Built In Three Phases

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has made progress on the Airoli–Katai Naka corridor project. This project is expected to be a game-changer, improving road connectivity across many areas in Mumbai. According to Free Press Journal, it will connect Airoli, Mumbra, and Katai Naka through a smooth, high-speed road.

Once this project is completed, it will help reduce travel distance and ease traffic on busy roads. Phase I is in its final stage, while Phase III is also in motion.

How This Corridor Will Cut Travel Time?

Talking about this corridor, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted that it will improve connectivity between Thane and Navi Mumbai. As per Free Press Journal, he pointed out that the tunnel section will allow faster movement and will save around 35 to 40 minutes of travel time. Also, it will bring the idea of “Mumbai in Minutes” closer to reality.

The total length of all three phases is around 12.71 km. The corridor will have a 3+3 lane carriageway. It will also include a twin tunnel with three traffic lanes and one refuge lane. The tunnelling work uses the NATM method, which is suitable for complex geological conditions and allows flexible construction.

CM Devendra Fadnavis said that this project is part of the bigger plan called “Mumbai 3.0.” The main aim of this vision is to reduce traffic congestion and make sure that growth is not limited to one area, and travel becomes easier for everyone.
