The holy site stands beside the pristine Hemkund Lake, setting up an atmosphere of peace and devotion. The pilgrims often take a dip in the icy waters before offering prayers at the Gurudwara. Not only that, but the site is also important to Hindus, as a nearby Lakshman Temple is said to have performed penance here.

Surrounded by snow-covered mountains and facing a crystal-clear glacial lake, the holy shrine attracts thousands of devotees and tourists from across India and around the world. However, reaching Hemkund Sahib is not as easy as the steep trek and changing weather can make it difficult to reach. How To Register For The Hemkund Sahib Yatra Trek?

All devotees planning to visit the Hemkund Sahib Yatra must complete their registration through the official Uttarakhand government’s pilgrimage portal. The registration process is simple, and here’s how to do it:

  • Register or log in to the portal
  • Create a tour by filling in the necessary travel dates, the number of travellers, and selected destinations
  • Submit the pilgrim details; once done, download the registration letter

Devotees can also perform offline registration at authorised biometric centres. The Hemkund Sahib Yatra is open for the pilgrimage season. The shrine was officially opened on May 25, 2026 and will remain open to pilgrims until October 26, 2026. The best time to travel to the Hemkund Sahib is anytime between June and August. June is said to be the most popular month, as the monsoon showers can cause delays by July and August.

How To Reach Hemkund Sahib Yatra?

If you wish to travel by air, then Dehradun airport is the nearest airport from where pilgrims can reach Govindghat by taxi or bus. Rail travel is also accessible through Rishikesh Railway Station. Haridwar and Dehradun. By road, Govindghat acts as the main base for the trek and is accessible via scenic Himalayan highways passing through Rishikesh, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Joshimath.
