Travelling among Indians has changed a lot. Now, they are thinking beyond just sightseeing and showing more interest in spiritual trips. Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report provides some interesting facts, proving that Indians lead Asia in planning trips for spiritual reasons. Keep reading to know more!

How Indians Are Planning Spiritual Travel?

As per Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report, 1 in 5 (19%) of Indian travellers plan to take a spiritually motivated trip this year, the highest among Asian countries. Indonesia is second, Malaysia third, followed by Japan and Thailand. This shows that faith strongly influences travel choices in India.

One of the reasons people plan spiritual trips is spiritual events. In 2025, Prayagraj saw a 233% jump in accommodation searches on Agoda during the Maha Kumbh Mela. It is one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, held every twelve years, attracting visitors from across India and abroad. Festivals like Holi also influence travel. During that time, destinations known for temples and rituals witnessed more interest. Pushkar recorded a 195% rise in accommodation searches, Vrindavan 126%, and Mathura 109%.

How Digital Tools Are Making Travel Better?

Digital tools now play a crucial role in making spiritual trip planning convenient. These tools provide clear, real-time information about opening hours, ticketing, and visitor guidelines, which can help both domestic and international travellers plan better. They also help in finding new locations to explore.

Gaurav Malik, Country Director, Indian Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said, “Spiritual travel has long been part of India’s travel culture, and the findings from Agoda’s Travel Outlook Report reflect how faith continues to influence travel decisions across the country. From major pilgrimage gatherings to festival-linked travel, many Indian travellers plan journeys that combine cultural traditions with opportunities to explore different destinations. Agoda helps make these journeys more enriching by offering great deals across a wide range of accommodations, flights, and activities.”
