According to Reuters, after the Galwan clash in 2020, both China and India imposed restrictions on tourism. Recently, India announced that it will resume visas for Chinese citizens. In 2022, China had already started issuing visas for Indian tourists and businesspeople, but India hadn’t given its permission until now.

The Chinese media company, The Global Times, shared a post by the Indian Embassy in China on Weibo that says,From Thursday, July 24, 2025, Chinese citizens can apply for a visa to visit India. They’ll have to follow a process of filling out a visa application online, printing it and then making an appointment. To complete the process, they should submit their passport, visa application and other necessary documents.”

This decision is taken after a change in agreement where both countries agreed on direct air service between Beijing and New Delhi. The Indian government took this decision after a high-profile meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Russia in October.

Are India And China Easing Tension Between The Two Countries?

India and China share a 3,800 km long border that created a dispute between the two countries in the 1950s. In 1962, they fought an intense war, but now they’re trying to settle the issue and improve their relations.

As per the Reuters report, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun even mentioned that “China is willing to maintain communication and consultation with India and is trying to enhance the personal exchanges between the two countries.” The Indian foreign minister also told the Chinese counterpart that both countries should ease the tension by moving their troops back to solve the border tension and should avoid trade restrictions.
