Indian artisanal cheeses have just received recognition on a global stage, even though the segment remains relatively unfamiliar to most consumers in the country. India just bagged four awards at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026, an international competition for cheese and dairy products held in São Paulo. Read on to know more about it.
Indian Artisanal Cheeses Wins 4 Global Awards
As per a report by CNBC TV, India won one Super Gold, two Golds and one Silver medal in its debut appearance. The highest recognition, Super Gold, was awarded to Eleftheria Gulmarg, a Brie-style cheese made by Mumbai-based Eleftheria Cheese. The cheese was made by using cow’s milk and kept for around two to three weeks.
The two gold medals were awarded to Yak Churpi-Soft by Nordic Farm in Leh, Ladakh, and Eleftheria Brunost. Made from yak milk, the Yak Churpi-Soft represents a softer version of the traditional Himalayan churpi. Eleftheria Brunost is a whey-based cheese, inspired by the Norwegian brown cheese and made by cooking whey. The Silver medal went to Eleftheria Kaali Miri, a Belper Knolle-style cheese. It is shaped into small balls, coated with black pepper, and kept for one to two months. The competition featured participants from over 30 countries and was judged by a panel of 350 international experts. The main parameters include texture, aroma, flavour and overall quality.
