If you thought honeymoons were all about beach resorts, breakfast in bed, and perfect Instagram pictures, think again! Indian couples are now rewriting the rulebook. They are spending an average of ₹1-4 lakh for a more story-led or a curated experience that feels personal and memorable. Read on to find out how honeymoon trends are changing, or should we say, evolving.
Indian Couples Redefining Honeymoon Trends

When we think about honeymoons, we often picture resorts or lazy days by the beach with our partner. But according to Pickyourtrail, an Indian brand for customised holidays, the trend is clearly shifting. Instead of following standard itineraries, Indian couples are now planning trips that feel more personal and meaningful. As per their data, 62% of couples prefer curated, story-led travel that helps them create lasting memories, while 38%, especially millennials, still opt for comfort and familiarity.
Interestingly, couples are setting aside a budget of at least ₹1-2 lakh for their honeymoon, while those who prefer a fully personalised experience are willing to spend ₹3-4 lakh or more. Over the last few years, honeymoon spending has also seen a 5% year-on-year increase. City-wise, couples from Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad accounted for the largest number of customised honeymoon bookings on Pickyourtrail.
New Destinations and Meaningful Experiences
Yes, honeymoon spending is changing, but what about destinations? The usual favourites like the Maldives, Bali, Thailand, and Europe still remain popular among Indian couples. But countries like Vietnam and Dubai are now emerging as fast-growing honeymoon destinations. Vietnam, in particular, is overtaking Europe among travellers seeking deeper cultural experiences. And it’s easy to see why; it’s affordable, rich in culture and history, and offers incredible food!
Gen Z Indian couples, meanwhile, are looking for more meaningful experiences. They are curating honeymoons that include activities like traditional cooking classes, ring-making workshops, wellness sessions, and more, instead of just relaxing at a resort.
All these trends show that modern Indian couples want honeymoons that go beyond the ordinary. They are chasing experiences that bring back not just Instagram-worthy photos, but stories and memories that stay for years.
Hari Ganapathy, Co-founder of Pickyourtrail, said, “Couples today aren’t just looking for a beautiful destination anymore. They want their honeymoon to feel like them. It’s no longer about ticking off lists, but about creating moments that actually mean something to them.”
