Over the recent years, the country saw a massive increase in tourism, and according to the Greek Tourism Enterprises Association (INSETE), Greece is now the 26th most favourite destination of Indian travellers; jumping 13 positions compared to the 2024 report. This country has seen more Indian travellers than from the USA, Canada, and Australia.
How Indians Affect Greek Tourism
As per the report shared by the Greek Tourism Enterprises Association (INSETE), 41.2% Indians are planning international trips with overnight stays. 16.5% Indians are planning three to four trips in a year. The report further suggested that, when compared to other countries, Indians are likely to spend more on travelling. On average, they spend €50 (₹4,800) per night on a trip of five to seven days. According to the World Tourism Organisation, Indian travellers spend nearly four times more than Japanese and Chinese tourists. Also, it’s 140% and 71% more compared to British and American tourists, respectively. These figures reflect India’s growing influence and significance in global tourism.

Why Indian Travellers Are Attracted To Greece?
Indian travellers are increasingly visiting Greece to explore luxury holidays, enjoy culinary experiences, take cultural tours, and sightseeing. According to Greek City Times, there is also a rise in wedding tourism, whether planning a destination wedding or attending one, conference tourism, and cinematic tourism.
AEGEAN Airlines To Start New Flights
When travelling to Greece for vacation or business, 90.6% Indian travellers choose comfort over anything. Whether visiting with friends or family, their first preference is a hotel or vacation homes. Due to the growing demand, the Greek airline, AEGEAN, is now all set to enter India. In spring 2026, AEGEAN is planning to start direct flights from New Delhi and Mumbai to Athens.
The future of Greek tourism will undoubtedly flourish in the coming years, and in this, Indians will play a key role. India and Greece are now looking forward to building a strong relationship.
