At present, travellers are no longer waiting for birthdays, weekends or holidays to plan a trip. Now, even a small win or a bad day can make them pack their bags and leave. A new study commissioned by Booking.com in partnership with YouGov has revealed how Indian travellers are taking trips for everyday reasons. Read on to know more!
How Are Indian Travellers Taking Trips?
Booking.com, in collaboration with YouGov, shared that 58% of Indian travellers took a trip because they simply wanted to. 57% of travellers took two to three leisure trips without any major celebrations. This means spontaneous trips are now becoming a trend!
Moreover, travellers are now making the most of small opportunities to plan trips. 57% travelled simply because they wanted better weather, while 48% travelled to get a better background for their photos and videos. Some even booked trips to beat post-holiday blues, with 20% choosing travel for this reason. Another 16% booked a getaway because it was payday.
61% booked a trip to celebrate small wins, such as reaching a fitness goal or getting through a difficult work week. Meanwhile, 55% booked a staycation to enjoy hotel comforts like room service and soaking tubs.

Escape From Everyday Problems
Many travellers are taking trips to escape everyday problems. 28% of Indian travellers planned trips to escape when their in-laws came to stay for a long time. Another 30% travelled when their nanny, house help, or driver went on leave. 35% travelled after a fight or breakup with their partner. Meanwhile, 46% escaped home renovations, drilling sounds or noisy neighbours. Also, 50% booked trips to avoid social commitments, such as family weddings or dinners with distant relatives.
People are even planning trips during working hours. 48% admitted to booking a vacation while attending an important work meeting or conference call. Another 45% browsed destination photos while pretending to work. 35% book within a week of getting the travel bug, while 20% make the booking on the same day.
For many Indians, any reason is good enough for a trip. 51% felt they deserved a break, while 36% travelled for a great deal. 32% said travel was “cheaper than therapy”. 24% joked about needing Vitamin D, 22% followed astrology advice, and 10% said their pet needed a break.
